Founded in 2015, Dewvest Opportunity Fund (Pty) Ltd identifies, executes and manages larger residential real estate investments made by Dewvest and other private equity co-investors.
Following a forty year career as business consultant & politician in Johannesburg, Louis de Waal identified a great opportunity when the stars seemed to align in 2013. A desire to move to the Cape, growing concern for the future of his JSE- centred portfolio, a son with financial flair & a philanthropic heart and a nephew with extensive experience in structuring property deals in Cape Town convinced him that it was time to embark on a new challenge.
In 2015 the De Waal’s set out to identify and exploit opportunities in the Western Cape property market for the benefit of all its stakeholders. Together, Louis, Stephan and Bertus have grown the business exponentially, with Dewvest (De Waal Investments) completing several large projects to date.
They believe that self-reliance, “doing your own thing” is crucial for growth in the 21st century New South Africa. The strong belief that business should benefit the broader community lies at the heart of Dewvest.
Louis says; “The three of us share a value system, an ethos of abundance (a belief that we can make business work profitably for ourselves, for partners and for other stakeholders). So we set out on an entrepreneurial path to build a sharing, abundance driven ethos inside Dewvest”.
The Dewvest ethos is underscored by the formation of the Thuthukisa (Grace in Action) Trust, Stephan’s brainchild. The Thuthukisa Trust owns 10% of Dewvest and profits are allocated to benefit the greater community and AIDS orphans. Students with needs and the disadvantaged are supported and street vendors are taught commercial and entrepreneurial skills in a partnership with the Paradigm Shift Group.
